I feel so torn sometimes between the urge to do something (usually creative) and the desire to see (and hear and read about) what other people are doing.
It's OK to do both, I think, if the balance is right. For me, a good balance is spending about 80% of my studio time creating and about 20% consuming (that ol' 80:20 rule gets everywhere). I'm guessing at that ratio because I don't measure my time. Perhaps I should.
The problem is that it's so easy to find out what other people are doing these days. I only have to glance at my mobile phone. ...Three hundred times a day.
I'm training myself to spend less time consuming by switching my mobile phone to Flight Mode whenever I want to focus on my work; no phone calls, no text messages, no social media notifications, no technological distractions of any kind.
I haven't perfected this by any means. But it does help me to focus and get more done.
The next step is to do something amazing. Because, y'know, it's that simple. ;-)
