What are your favourite comic strips of all time? And why do you like them so much? I'd love to know.
My favourite is Calvin 'n' Hobbes by Bill Watterson (see above). I love the relationship between Calvin and his stuffed tiger, the exasperation of his parents, the feud with his neighbour Susie Derkins, and Calvin's wild imagination; one minute he's a dinosaur, the next he's fighting aliens in space. And it's all beautifully drawn.
So I was pleased to see Calvin 'n' Hobbes in the number 1 spot of The 25 Best Sunday Comic Strips of All Time by Brenden Gallagher.
Gallagher, a journalist in Los Angeles, wrote the article in 2013, so it is full of American comic strips and is somewhat dated. But it's a good starting point. Here are his top 5:
