I painted this portrait of Alfie in 2015 and filmed it as an experiment in time lapse photography. But it reveals something else...
It reveals my longing to draw cartoons and comics.
Even though I was spending hours and hours drawing and painting dog portraits in a realistic style, I couldn't resist doodling on Post-it notes; a cartoon face here, a speech bubble there. A longing to make people smile and laugh with my ideas.
That's why I've stopped drawing dogs and started drawing comic strips.
At the moment, my comic strips are autobiographical; mostly starring me and inspired by events in my life. But in a few weeks' time I'll share a new comic strip. One with fictional characters who are very different to me, but who feel more me than anything else I've ever done.
I can't wait. Sometimes life should be in time lapse.
