This comic strip has one of my favourite punchlines in the Oojo and Bink saga so far. I remember when the idea struck me...
I was sitting on my girlfriend's sofa, feet up on the coffee table (I know - naughty), sketchbook on my lap. We were having one of those joint working-at-home days. We call it a hub, but basically it's just the two of us in a living room with laptops and coffee.
I'd been struggling with the premise: Oojo and Bink look up at the night sky, and they're thinking very different things. I'd drawn several thumbnail sketches with a pencil at the table, but I'd got stuck and gone over to the sofa for a change of position. Relax a bit. Let it stew.
That's when the punchline hit me. It just popped into my head. And I laughed. Aloud. My girlfriend asked me what's funny, and I read the comic strip out to her. I don't think I did it justice. I would simply have to draw it.
So I did. The initial pencil drawing was fine, but I distracted myself during the inking stage by filming it on my mobile phone. I've been making videos for my YouTube channel, which is great to do, but the phone and its tripod are getting in the way of my drawing. I might have to rethink...
