This year I attended the traditional May Morning celebrations in Oxford for the first time.
At 6am Laura and I listened to Magdalen College choir sing Hymnus Eucharisticus from the Great Tower as the sun rose. It was a beautiful moment, which made up for the very drunk man yelling in my face shortly beforehand.
When the singing had finished and the bells began to peal, we followed the crowd along the streets of Oxford. Some community groups were singing and dancing, many dressed in white and decorated with flowers. Morris dancers leaped about en masse, or walked past individually clutching a pint of beer, their bells still jingling.
Eventually we ducked into a pub for a liquid breakfast, before heading home for a cooked one.
If you get the chance to go to May Morning in Oxford, I recommend it.
