My comic number 1 for 30 Days of Comics was inspired by my Nana. "Don't get old," she said to me from her hospital bed. "I'll try," I replied.
But I didn't know it would be about her when I started drawing. Using a small brush and some black Indian ink, I drew the boxes first. Then I drew the man washing up. After that, I decided he was going out somewhere; my Nana's hospital ward, as it turned out. I finished with the man deciding to enjoy his youth.
I drew straight onto the paper with brush and ink. It was a risky technique because it was unplanned, and I abandoned several attempts that went wrong. But it meant I drew quickly and loosely and wasn't too precious about it. It felt very playful.
